Russian company Kraftway launches production of domestic computers
In the fall, the Russian manufacturer of computers and servers Kraftway plans to launch the first experimental batch of computers on the domestic Elbrus microprocessor. The launch of mass production is scheduled for 2016. The company “Aquarius” , which owns a plant in the Ivanovo region and is part of the National Computer Corporation, is negotiating the production of computers with the Moscow Center of SPARC-technologies (MCST) - the manufacturer of Elbrus processors. Kraftway senior vice president Renat Yusupov told Vedomosti that in 2016 it is planned to sell tens of thousands of new computers. The technological chain for future production at the Kraftway plant has already been built, logistics issues have been resolved and an economic justification has been prepared, he adds.
According to Yusupov, the public sector especially needs computers and high-security servers. He can argue that servers capable of working in secure data center segments may even be more useful to government customers than personal computers, which are unlikely to be widely distributed outside the protected segment of government IT systems.

In comparison with the level of 2014, the share of all these manufacturers increased, except for Kraftway (it had 0.8%).
Yesterday, Kommersant reported that the Industry Development Fund ( FER ), created by order of Dmitry Medvedev to support import-substituting industries, would issue a loan to Kraftway. The company will receive a loan of 500 million rubles at 5% per annum for five years to develop its PC and tablet production at a factory in Kaluga Obninsk. The competitors of the company from among foreign manufacturers are convinced that it is inappropriate to assemble computers in Russia, since it is still produced from foreign components.
