Twitter lost 450 employees over the year
A team of Financial Times journalists analyzed LinkedIn social network user profiles. In the course of the analysis, it became clear that more than 450 employees left Twitter in a year, Vedomosti reports. This is about 12% of the entire Twitter state. Among those who left were several managers of the corporate development and partnership department, as well as employees of MoPub, bought about two years ago.
The analysis carried out is probably not completely complete, since not every employee of this company has an account on LinkedIn. However, even with the departure of 12% of employees, the total staff of the microblogging service grew by about 18% over the year.
According to some FT sources, the reason for some layoffs is the conflict between the team that was developing the corporate division of Twitter and the financial director Anthony Noto. Noto came to the company from Goldman Sachs after inviting former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo.
Mass layoffs began in June last year when operational director Ali Rowhani, vice president Chloe Sladden, plus financial director Mike Gupt, was demoted.

According to analyst Robert Peck from SunTrust Robinson, now the risk of brain drain from Twitter is quite high. This situation is due, firstly, to the unclear position of the microblogging service management, in connection with the dismissal of Costolo and the appointment of Jack Dorsey in his place. Secondly, many start-ups before IPO attract large funds and become more attractive for employees. “In a period of change, some qualified specialists may leave the company, and in the absence of a permanent director general of the company, it becomes difficult to find new specialists,” says Peck.
Another analyst, Brian Weather from Pivotal Research, believes that some employees are leaving because the high cost of Twitter shares gives them the freedom to make decisions about their work. “These layoffs should not cause concern.
