Hewlett-Packard (
HP ) turned the production of personal computers near St. Petersburg. According to kartoteka.ru, it was located in the village of Shushary and was liquidated on July 8. Sources of "Kommersant"
reported that the plant stopped working in mid-2014.
“The plant was closed for economic reasons. The cost of PCs collected in Russia is significantly higher than those collected in Asia. When deciding on the closure of production, there was no talk about import substitution, and therefore the Russian assembly was not in demand, ”the source said.
"The plant began with the production of 10 thousand units per month, but did not reach the expected volumes," said another source. Foxconn looked for other partners for assembly in Shushary, but did not find it. At the same time, the HP plant in the Czech Republic was chronically underloaded, and the corporation moved the assembly to a more modern enterprise, added Alexander Kalinin, president of
Aquarius .
