New York spammer will serve 2.5 years

27-year-old New Yorker Adam Vitale was sentenced to 30 months in prison for illegal mailing. It took the court almost a year to take out the verdict (and this after the admission of guilt to Vitale).

The enterprising guy managed to get around America Online (AOL) spam filter and send a couple with accomplice Todd Meller (27 months in prison last year) 1,277,000 letters to over 1.2 million people.

In addition to the prison term, Vitale was obliged to pay compensation to the postal service in the amount of $ 180,000.

By the way, they caught the spammer "on live bait" (apparently, it was not possible to calculate it by technical means): when trying to conclude a spam sending contract with a figurehead (government agent).

“Spam is not children's toys,” said District Judge Denny Chin after the verdict was announced. I personally agree. So they should, adversary.
