Elance.com minimizes work

Last night I received a letter with the following content:

Hello!
I want to report that we are soon rolling out the Elance platform. As we said earlier this year, the decision to focus on a single platform was difficult, but extremely necessary in order to achieve better results for ourselves and help our customers do it.

The Elance community is very important to us and we thank you for copying the Elance profile. Most of Elance's clients received an invitation to register at Upwork, the rest will be invited until September. We will make it so that they will simply find you on Upwork. We are also happy to announce that when working with clients with whom you previously worked at Elance, the Upwork commission will be the same as earlier at Elance.

Important dates for freelancers:
  • In early August, new customers will not be able to register for Elance.
  • Starting in September, we will begin to limit the ability to publish new projects on Elance.
  • From the beginning of 2016, you can continue to work on current projects at Elance. Nevertheless, we suggest you start new projects on Upwork and transfer existing ones as soon as possible.
  • From mid-2016, you will still have access to messages, contacts and files on Elance.

Upwork proved to be a platform for freelancers with a large number of contracts and, accordingly, more revenue than Elance. We are also working to increase your productivity: mobile applications are available for iOS and Android, the new instant messenger allows you to communicate in real time.

Thank you for your work at Elance. We appreciate your patience during the transition process and look forward to helping you succeed on Upwork. You can get more information about this in our blog.

Best wishes,
Stephane kasriel
CEO, Upwork

For me, this is certainly an unpleasant event. At least by increasing the commission from 8.75% to 10%. More than half of the projects in my portfolio are new customers. For the old whether there will be a discount, or not - depending on how they are re-registered.
