Sportbox Sportbox will not be closed

A few days ago, information appeared on the Web about the possible closure of the Sportbox resource by the new owner (Gazprom-Media holding). So, on July 1, employees of the sports department of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company announced their dismissal in October. However, the holding is not going to close the Sportbox, on the contrary, the company plans to actively develop the sports portal, writes RBC. The site will enter into a deal between VGTRK and Gazprom-Media for the sale of the frequencies of the channel 2 by the state-owned company.

Sportbox will be acquired by Gazprom-Media holding together with Sportbox management company. Work on the resource will be the old team. In the future, the new owner of the resource will be engaged in optimizing the functionality of the portal, and monetization mechanisms will be used with advertising. It should be noted that the seller of advertising on the site, most likely, will not change even after the change of the project owner. Currently, Gazprom-Media Digital sells advertising space.

The monthly audience of Sportbox.ru in May 2015 amounted to 4.13 million Russians 12-64 years old. According to this indicator, the resource is the largest in the Russian Federation. The closest competitors have a smaller audience: “Championship.com” (Rambler & Co) - 4.15 million people, Sports.ru - 2.14 million people.
