Cisco Announces Acquisition of OpenDNS

Cisco announced plans to buy OpenDNS for $ 635 million. In May 2014, Cisco became one of the company's investors in a $ 35 million round.

The acquisition of OpenDNS is carried out as part of a Cisco strategy to increase the level of security when transmitting data over the network. “Thanks to the deal, we will be able to better provide users with transparency and protection from uncontrolled or unauthorized access to the network,” says Cisco Development Director Hilton Romansky on the company's blog.

The OpenDNS team will join the division of Cisco Security Business Group, which deals with network security. Cisco plans to continue to develop both paid and free versions of OpenDNS. The deal should be closed before the end of the first quarter of the 2016 fiscal year, reports TechCrunch.
