Russian companies and Finnish Jolla discuss the possibility of releasing a YotaPhone based on Sailfish OS

The developers of the Finnish operating system Sailfish and representatives of the companies STC ROSA and Alt Linux have discussed the possibility of serial production of YotaPhone based on Sailfish. So far, YotaPhone devices have an operating system based on Google Android .

A test copy of this smartphone based on Sailfish is available from Russian Communications Minister Nikolai Nikiforov. However, this configuration is not sufficiently prepared to enter the market. Sailfish supports Android applications, but so far it does not properly interact with the YotaPhone at the hardware level.

Jolla (developer of Sailfish) was one of the two main candidates for state support among software developers. His competitor in the category of mobile operating systems was the Samsung company with the Tizen operating system.

Earlier, Megamind wrote that Samsung and New Cloud Technologies planned to conclude an agreement. The idea was to pre-install the office software package “MyOffice” on Korean smartphones running the Tizen operating system.

The cost of adaptation and localization of Tizen Minkomsvyaz estimated at 1.23 billion rubles. The cost of the Finnish project was estimated at 2.225 billion rubles. 65% of the cost should be compensated by the state. The Ministry of Communications and IT experts preferred Sailfish.

They found it safer. In addition, Russian owners also own shares in Jolla - the ESN group, Grigory Berezkin , for example.

In the category of client and server operating systems, the leaders were STC ROSA and Alt Linux.

There are no specific agreements between the SEC ROSA- Alt Linux and the Finnish company. It is assumed that they will adapt Sailfish for the needs of the public sector, according to Vedomosti.

Infowatch Natalia Kasperskaya also develops its own smartphone for organizations with increased security requirements. It will be integrated with a program that detects and prevents information leaks, Vsevolod Ivanov, executive director of Infowatch, told Vedomosti.

"Megamind" wrote that on June 19, the State Duma passed a bill on import substitution of software in the third reading. From January 1, 2016, government customers must justify the choice of foreign products instead of domestic counterparts.
