At the St. Petersburg International Economic
Forum, the head of Roskomnadzor, Alexander Zharov, said that the “anti-piracy” law fully justified itself. The results are now. According to Zharov, last year the market for legal online video services in Russia grew by 58%. It continues to grow today. And consumers of licensed content has increased by 50%.
These results are supported by research by
TMT Consulting . TMT specialists clarified that the volume of the OTT video services market amounted to 2.6 billion rubles in 2014. Such services receive 36% of revenue from advertising, and the rest is provided by user payments.
The original version of the anti-piracy law, adopted in August 2013, protected only the rights to use video products. Since May of this year, a
new version of the law has
entered into force. Now the law protects the rights to other types of content (music, books, software). In addition, it allows “for life” to block sites that have twice violated the rights of one and the same owner.
')
Alexander Zharov believes that resource owners have become more actively cooperating with copyright holders and even with Roskomnadzor itself. Supposedly, many of them provided direct access to their resources in order to delete content more quickly.
According to Zharov, about 120 large pirate sites in Russian have been created in RuNet. But 69 of them are already blocked by Roskomnadzor. The Office uses special software developed by specialists from Perm. It allows you to quickly find pirated content, not only on the main pirate site, but also on all its mirrors, Vedomosti reports.
In April, Megamind
wrote that against the backdrop of tightening anti-piracy law, the management of some resources with pirated video content offered cooperation to copyright holders. The owners of pirate sites reported that they are ready to cooperate on any conditions. They promised that, if necessary, any films could be removed from the resources. They also agreed to install licensed video players.
The president of
the Amedia film company noted that information about pirates who embarked on the path of legalization was exaggerated: “Right holders are no longer so interested in legalizing such sites. Two years ago it was possible to discuss it, but the pirates were late. Now, not all copyright holders will want to share content: it will be easier for many to close a pirated site under a new law. ”
