Alibaba will launch its Netflix-like streaming service

Alibaba will launch a streaming video service like Netflix and HBO for two months, Reuters reported. The company wants to repeat the success of American services in China.

The service will call Tmall Box Office - “TBO”. Content will be purchased in China and other countries and produced in the company itself.

On the domestic market, Alibaba will compete with a number of companies: Tencent Holdings Ltd, iQiyi from Baidu, Sohu.com, LeTV - Leshi Internet Information & Technology Corp Beijing. Another competitor will be Youku Tudou Inc. - one of the largest video streaming platforms in China, 16.5% of which is owned by Alibaba.
