UberX banned in South Korea

In South Korea, a law was passed banning the provision of transport services without a license. Now the UberX service, which transports at a low price, is outlawed in this country. The company will lose a significant part of the profits, as the South Korean market is the fourth largest among Asian countries.

The law will take effect at the end of this year. The text of the document does not mention specific carriers, but the purpose of the regulators was clearly the company Uber , Reuters notes .

In December last year, South Korean authorities accused the company's general director, Travis Kalanik, of illegal activities in the country. And his proposal to introduce a registration system for Uber drivers was rejected by the Ministry of Transport of South Korea. In March 2015, the company temporarily ceased operations in Seoul due to protests by unions and authorities.

"Uber respects the decision of the National Assembly and hopes to continue the dialogue with the leadership of Seoul in order to provide citizens with the best service within the framework of Korean law," said the service representatives.

The American company is being harassed around the world. The official reason is the carriage of passengers without a license. In the Chinese city of Gaunzhou, authorities searched the local Uber office. The company was banned in Kansas and in some other US cities. Uber was also banned in Spain, the Netherlands, China, India and several states in Australia.

"Megamind" wrote that since May 26, its activities are prohibited in Italy. The court claims that UberPOP with drivers without a license “interferes with the work of certified transport service companies and has appropriate licenses.” Within 15 days the company must complete work in the country. If this does not happen, Uber will pay a fine of € 20 thousand every day.

To date, services such as UberTaxi and UberBlack still remain in South Korea. UberTaxi drivers are licensed. UberBlack only transports disabled people, foreigners and the elderly, which is also carried out in accordance with local laws.
