In Russia, the demand for flagship smartphones is growing again

Sales of flagship smartphones Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge in Russia began on April 16 of this year. During the first month, 12,000 smartphones were purchased. Last year, the same Samsung Galaxy S5 devices were sold. In a difficult economic situation, this result is considered good, as suggested by the representative of Svyaznoy Maria Zaikina.

Especially when you consider that the start of sales this year was much weaker. In the first few days, Russians bought 2-7 times fewer new Samsung smartphones than in the same period last year. This is partly due to interruptions in the supply of smartphones in Russia.

At the moment, the deficit has been overcome. In addition, there was a restart of the consumer credit market. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are now sold in installments for 10 months.

According to Zaikina, the weekly turnover of credit sales at Svyaznoy increased by 50% after launching the installment program on the Apple iPhone .

According to Zaikina, in the first quarter of 2015, sales of smartphones worth from 15 thousand rubles decreased by 10% compared with the first quarter of last year. The Russian smartphone market has shrunk by only 7%. One of the reasons for this situation was the increased demand for electronics in the fourth quarter of 2014.

As the representative of Euroset, Uliana Smolskaya, explained to Vedomosti, banks started closing their loan programs as early as December last year and then their number decreased by 10%. Therefore, in January 2015, the decline was already twice as large. But with the return of credit programs in March, sales of expensive Euroset smartphones increased by 25%.

As stated by the representative of MTS Dmitry Solodovnikov, their lending programs were not closed. And in April of this year, MTS reduced the prices of smartphones and tablets by 30%. Thus, sales of expensive smartphones could be tripled.

Telecom Daily CEO Denis Kuskov agrees that the lending market is gaining momentum again. However, he does not believe that his condition can be compared with the pre-crisis one: commodity prices have increased, and interest rates on loans too.
