Finnish Nokia still agreed to buy its own competitor - the French-American Alcatel-Lucent for $ 16.6 billion.
The merger will be completed in the first half of 2016, with Alcatel-Lucent shareholders receiving 0.55 shares of the combined telecommunications company. Last year, the total revenue of both companies exceeded $ 27 billion.
Nokia, whose capitalization more than doubles the estimated cost of Alcatel ($ 29.5 billion versus $ 11.6 billion), promised not to cut jobs in France, which was one of the main demands of the French government and anti-monopoly authorities.
