
The law on personal data will take effect in five months, and many Western companies are already puzzled by the transfer of data in order to continue business in our country.
The transfer of the servers of the American company Google to Russia was discussed at the end of March at a meeting in the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media, devoted to preparing for the entry into force of the law on the storage of personal data,

The meeting at the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media was attended by Deputy Communications Ministers Alexei Sokolov and Rashid Ismailov, President of the Data Center Industry Association, Alexey Degtyarev, as well as the owners and managers of Russia's largest data centers. The meeting was organized by the Internet ombudsman Dmitry Marinichev.
During the meeting, a representative of Rostelecom announced that Google already partially stores information on the territory of its company's data center. Some other meeting participants confirmed this information. The representative of Google, however, said that the company has not yet commented on the topic of storage of personal data.

As it became known, Google began to enter into contracts for the placement of equipment in Russia more than a year ago. According to some information, the company already has dozens of racks in Russian data centers.
According to the analytical company PMR, in 2014 the volume of the market for commercial services of data centers in Russia reached 11.7 billion rubles, which is 20.4% more than in 2013. And judging by the current trends, this market will only grow. Next in line are eBay, PayPal and dozens of other companies.
According to Dmitry Marinichev, the next such meeting will be held in mid-April.
