LinkedIn has agreed to take over Lynda.com for $ 1.5 billion

LinkedIn - the world's largest "professional social network", agreed to purchase the educational project Lynda.com for $ 1.5 billion. The amount will be paid in the second quarter of 2015, 52% in cash and 48% in shares of LinkedIn.





Lynda.com was created in 1995 by the spouses Barce Khiven and Linda Weinman. The resource, whose audience is estimated at more than 4 million users, has published more than 6,000 courses in business, web development, design, photography, 3D animation and video shooting in many languages ​​(English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese). These are mainly video lectures (more than 260,000).



LinkedIn executive director Jeff Wiener noted that the missions of the two projects are similar: "We help professionals become better at what they do."

Most Lynda employees will go on LinkedIn.



LinkedIn, created in 2003, has more than 340 million registered users, in 2014 it doubled its revenue to $ 2.2 billion. The main part of the income is profit from contracts with recruitment agencies and HR departments of large companies.
