FedEx has agreed to purchase TNT Express courier

Yesterday, the American corporation FedEx announced that they had reached an agreement with the Dutch TNT Express on the latest business acquisition at a price of $ 4.8 billion. With this deal, FedEx hopes to strengthen its position in the delivery and postal services market in Europe.

What is interesting is that two years ago, UPS’s offer to buy TNT Express for $ 7 billion failed because it was expressly banned by antitrust authorities. Like two years ago, the actual transaction will take place only if approved by the European Commission, but neither the company’s representatives nor analysts expect it to raise questions from the regulator.

With the help of TNT, FedEx will become larger than its main competitor - UPS, while paying for it much less than the latter offered. The European delivery market is growing, but difficult to enter for non-national companies because of the different legislation in each of the EU countries.

With the acquisition of TNT, FedEx has a small but complete delivery system in Western Europe. FedEx Express CEO David Bronzhek noted that the negotiations lasted only 6 weeks, and the company's appetites warmed up the strengthening of the dollar against the euro and signs of improvement in the EU economy.

"This transaction was made in heaven" - quotes the words of Bronzhek edition of "Vedomosti".
