The court ordered Lurkomore to remove Syutkin's scandalous photo: Kommersant spoke with the project founder

On December 9, 2014, Lenta.ru reported that Roskomnadzor filed a lawsuit in the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow against the Lurkomorye portal. The site has been using photography by singer Valery Syutkin for several years for illustration in the article about the BBPE meme.

According to Kommersant, the court upheld the lawsuit and now the project management is obliged to remove the “problem” photo. If the site does not take action within 33 days, it will be entered in the unified register of prohibited Internet resources.

About the court decision

I know about this court decision in the same way as everyone from the press. This, of course, is a shame on the part of this court.
Because in this article on the Internet there is nothing concrete about Syutkin, it tells about where this meme came from. It was not we who invented it, the article is exactly that this is a piece of Internet history. There is such an effect of Streisand, when you try to ban information, everyone will know about it: we have these pictures, a little disguised, already shown on all the central channels over the past few months.

On the fate of Runet

There is nothing to change here. The state is trying to somehow roll up the Internet, so that there is nothing bad, offensive, wrong - everything that the state considers unnecessary. This is very bad, because it hinders the Internet to develop. That is, there is no separate Russian Internet, there has never been, but now this whole story with information sovereignty speaks about what to do as the state says, because the state says so. This is not a good idea.

We did not come up with this picture. She was there everywhere, all over the Internet, we just collected an article about her, where we write that Syutkin had nothing to do with it. This is our main complaint, that is, I would very much like to block the picture - well, try, of course, this is the Internet, it will be bad for you. But blocking our historical background is somehow not very much in terms of history, even.

Officials and people who are close to them, do not understand the Internet and want to make it simple, understandable: government search, public services, government database and search engine, everything is public, everything is in the name and on behalf of the state without these your funny jokes.
