The largest BitTorrent tracker on the Internet OpenBitTorrent has not been functioning for more than a week,
reports TorrentFreak.
Founded in 2009 after the closure of The Pirate Bay,
OpenBitTorrent eventually became a key element of the BitTorrent ecosystem. Working on free software Opentracker, he provided a free service, where everyone could find links to the desired torrents, while the site itself did not store torrent files, so there should be no complaints about it.
For several years, OpenBitTorrent has been the most popular BitTorrent tracker. For example, here are the statistics for July 2013.
')

The tracker processed approximately 3 billion requests per day.
However, about a week ago, he suddenly stopped responding. Apparently, the problem is related to
missing DNS records . The domain name is not currently associated with any IP address.
Tellingly, almost simultaneously with OpenBitTorrent, the related tracker PublicBT also stopped working.
It is possible that the cessation of OpenBitTorrent work is due to the arrest of The Pirate Bay co-founder Fredrik Neij, who is listed by one of the registrars of the OpenBitTorrent domain. He was detained a few weeks ago and at the moment, judging by the available information, he is being held in a Swedish prison.
