Well, here's the answer for you - the US government has banned Amazon from working with this project. This decision was influenced by Senator Joe Lieberman, who pointed to Amazon’s leadership in direct violation of US law through support for the work of Wikileaks. In addition, Lieberman legally prohibited any hosting services within the United States to support this project.
Today on Habré there is news that Wikileaks is under a 10 Gb / s DDOS attack , and Amazon’s servers helped the resource cope with such a load. However, now Wikileaks is working with the same hosting service, the Swedish merit Bahnhof AB. The latter is a fairly large host service, which, however, is far from Amazon with its cloud services.
At the time of writing the news, Wikileaks opened normally, which may indicate either that the attack was stopped, or that Bahnhof AB is also able to cope with DDOS, and quite well.

There is an interesting point, which indicates that the Swedes will still not be able to cope with a serious attack by hackers. According to Essenge, just before the publication of the last portion of documents, diplomatic correspondence, a hacker attack was carried out to the site, which the Swedish service failed to cope with. After that, Wikileaks migrated to Amazon Web Services, where, as you know, you can cope with almost any DDOS attack.
