Kaznet strikes against equating media sites

Today, the leading Internet resources of Kazakhstan hold a protest. From 15.00 to 16.00 Astana time, the work of a number of sites will be suspended.

The site owners are protesting against the adoption of the draft law in the first reading of the draft law, which equates Internet resources (in particular, all blogs, chat rooms, forums, etc.) to the media. What provides for site owners administrative and criminal liability for those materials that they, or users of these sites are placed on them. The draft law also provides for the consolidation of the powers of the prosecutor general to suspend the disseminated media products in Kazakhstan at its discretion in the law on mass media.

By the way, the goal of the developers of the law (according to their version) is to consolidate legal mechanisms in regulating the issues of placing information on web resources. It is necessary to protect the constitutional rights of citizens and legal entities. However, for obvious reasons, site owners and users do not approve of the initiatives of their lawmakers and their motives.
