Record fine

Attempts to tweak peering networks for distributing counterfeit products are undertaken with enviable regularity. Small fines on the creators of the torrent networks have been repeatedly imposed, but it was usually about relatively small amounts - from $ 50 to $ 100 thousand. In all cases, the accusation was based on the fact that the network owners themselves also laid out pirated products for download. Attracting the creators for distributing the entire video and musical compositions in general did not work - after all, the torrents do not lay out the files themselves (they are located on the computers of the network participants), but only links to them. But it seems that the sweet times for file sharing are over. The American Film Association knocked out of the TorrentSpy as much as $ 110 million through the courts.
The lawsuit was filed back in 2006; in two years, prosecutors managed to prove 3,699 cases of copyright infringement. By the way, surprisingly, because of the fact there were several times more violations. But the fact remains that the network stopped its work, the site is closed, the owners (Ueh Park and Justin Bannel) declared themselves bankrupt and are frantically thinking where to find $ 110 million, otherwise they face a rather long imprisonment.
