Linux - for housewives, XP - for geeks

An interesting trend has emerged in the subnotebooks market. As you know, different models are sold with different operating systems. So, consumer research has shown that subnotebooks for Linux, such as the Eee PC701, are mainly bought by students and housewives, but geeks like the more expensive subnotebooks under Windows XP.

Subnotes for XP are about $ 35-100 more expensive than Linux models. Of course, experienced housewives in shopping immediately feel this difference and, thus, replenish the army of “linuksoids”. From the point of view of housewives, there is no difference in the functionality of these computers, because both under XP and under Linux, the browser, mail client, office programs, etc. are run the same way.

This interesting phenomenon looks especially unusual against the background of the traditional PC market, where everything is exactly the opposite. Here the situation is completely reversed: the Windows operating system is traditionally considered to be the choice of beginners, and various GNU / Linux distributions are installed by experienced computer scientists.
