InterDigital Sells Intel Patent Package

At Habré, the company InterDigital is mentioned quite often, and solely in connection with information about patents (the company often behaved like a typical patent troll, thanks to the large number of patents belonging to it). In 2011, there were news that InterDigital is going to put up a package of patents for sale owned by the company, and potential buyers were mentioned very different. But the package was sold just now, and the buyer was Intel.

The total number of patents bought by Intel was 1,700, and the amount the corporation paid was $ 375 million. At the same time, no shares or securities were involved in the transaction - the payment is carried out exclusively in cash. As far as one can understand, the transaction is quite large, and it will be closed only by the autumn of 2012.

Interestingly, these 1,700 patents are only a small part of the total number of patents owned by InterDigital. Intel bought mostly papers related to wireless technologies, including 3G, LTE, WiFi.

By the way, a few weeks ago, Huawei filed a lawsuit against InterDigital, accusing the defendant of numerous violations of antitrust laws, including very high prices for the use of their patents.
