100,000 new blogs every day. Technorati publishes blogosphere statistics

Technorati, the most famous blog search service, has published its latest blogosphere development report . This statistical report is completely based on the data processed by the service: at the moment Technorati “monitors” 59 million blogs.

During the year, the number of blogs increased almost threefold: if in October 2005 their number slightly exceeded 20 million, now the blogosphere has come close to 60 million. It grows twice every 230 days .

Every day, 100,000 new blogs appear on the world wide web. Compared to the summer of 2006, the growth slowed down somewhat: the record was set in June, when about 160,000 new blogs were registered every day. Technorati explains such a decline not by weakening users' interest in this type of sites, but by their success in the fight against spamming blogs (or, as they are called, “splogs”): 70% of pings come from them, but representatives of the service claim that they learned qualitatively cut off these pings before sending their blogs get into the search index.

55% of blogs are currently active (Technorati considers “diaries” as such, which have been updated at least once in the last 3 months). In an hour blog authors write more than 54.000 posts.

Technorati notes the continued integration of traditional media and the blogosphere. Sites of the largest news agencies, newspapers, magazines, TV are still far ahead of blogs in popularity. The New York Times , Yahoo! are leading in the most popular sites included in the service index. News and CNN . The most popular blog - Engadget - ranks 15th in this list, and Boing Boing - 29th; In total, 12 blogs have entered.

Some behavioral characteristics of bloggers are also noted in the report: it is noted, for example, that the higher the authority of a blog (which depends on the number of other blogs linking to it), the more often new posts appear in it.
