MBC finally gives up and welcomes p2p

MBC, the largest broadcasting corporation in South Korea, announced that it will open almost all of its content for free distribution. This means that now any user or company will be able to take MBC content for free and place it on their servers without any restrictions.

MBC claim to do so because they are confident that they will be able to monetize safely. The end user will pay for the downloaded content - about 500 Korean won (~ $ 0.5) per series. MBC will collect this money from providers of p2p services, the company has already signed agreements with 40 providers. To detect freeloaders, MBC will use the groundwork of startups like Enswer, which can filter out illegally downloaded content .

The new MBC policy can be briefly expressed as follows: Spur the download and distribution of content and monetize at download points. It seems to me that this is a much better strategy than everything previously undertaken, and to the same wasted. Namely: the imposition of high penalties on content loaders to scare others. The problem is that many such loaders turned out to be sixteen-year-old schoolchildren, who often did not hear anything about the existing law and the punishment for its violation. Many, however, knew and were not afraid.

MBC stated that the experiment will be launched in March of this year.
