The editor-in-chief of the city portal
Pasadena Now hired two new reporters to work. They send articles about the life of Pasadena, California, but they never go to the editor for one simple reason: reporters ... live in India.
In America, even the local media, which write almost exclusively about local events, are beginning to attract remote journalists from India. This
interesting trend appeared quite recently and was typical mainly for the financial press. For example, the Indians processed standard press releases on quarterly financial results of corporations (later people were replaced by special programs that make it faster and without errors). Now the trend is expanding to regional journalism. This case is the first of its kind, a kind of experiment.
Weekly meetings of the Pasadena City Council are broadcast over the Internet, so the Indians can do regular reports, as if they were present in the hall. Any interested person can call or write an e-mail, so the reporter in Mumbai is no worse than the reporter in Pasadena.
Of course, this experiment has its critics. They say that Indian citizens from the other hemisphere have no idea how the authorities are located in a California town, from whom to take comments on a particular issue. Professionals with experience speak with sadness about what can become American journalism.

New reporters were found through the Indian version of craigslist.org. The search for candidates took only a few days. One of the Indians has a diploma from the University of California School of Journalism. For two, they were given a beggarly wage by American standards of $ 20,800 per year. The rate of development for each - 15 articles per week.
