Analytical company Hitwise, more precisely, a pretty employee LeAnn Prescott conducted a thorough study of how rumors are spread in the American blogosphere. Using technical means of her employer, charming LeAnn analyzed traffic on blogs that can be called “yellow”, by analogy with the press of the same color. These sites specialize in highlighting celebrity privacy. As it turned out, the popularity of such blogs is growing steadily.

One of the most popular "yellow" blogs last year was a collection of celebrity gossip from Pepper Hilton (
PerezHilton.com ). The "yellow" blogosphere has significantly benefited from a number of scandals that have been rich in recent months: the problems of Britney Spears and the death of Anna-Nicole Smith with the posthumous trials of her sexual exploits.
The total share of "yellow" traffic in the American blogosphere over the year increased from 0.02% to 0.06% –0.08%, that is, three or four times. The statistics take into account only the twenty largest blogs of this orientation.

In fairness, let's say that pretty LeAnn Prescott analyzed not only gossip and rumors, but also other components of the news and blogger traffic over the past year. For example, the most popular news for this time was the death of Saddam Hussein. The graph shows the share of news traffic in the general entertainment and multimedia sector.

Over the past year, as we see, the relative popularity of both news sites and blogs has grown significantly. The main traffic generators for all of them are still search engines, news aggregators and portals. Print media sites now receive 29% more traffic from Google than a year ago, and electronic media sites - 35.9% more traffic. In general, they are now dependent on Google by 14.9% and 10.23%, respectively.
