OFFSystem (Owner-Free File System) is a distributed file system in which pieces of files are randomly stored on different computers, and no one has a specific file in its entirety. The system was created by the hacker group
The Big Hack , which deals with the fight against digital copyright. When using the OFFSystem, the computers of the network members do not store files with illegal content, but only abstract data blocks that cannot be considered copyrighted objects. You can get the full file only with a special link.
The essence of the approach is that any copyrighted file is a set of bits and can be obtained from another set of bits to which copyright no longer applies. For example: a binary file can be represented as a number; if someone has rights to the number 12, then the numbers 5 and 7 we can use freely. What do you think about the legal distribution of the formula 5 + 7?
And it works like this: each uploaded file is divided into blocks of 128 kilobytes, each of which is assigned an identifier. After that, the blocks are distributed in a certain way to the nodes of the network and the so-called OFF-URL is generated, which is subsequently used to assemble the original file from the blocks. At the same time, the content itself is not transmitted directly between the participants, it is received only on the user's local machine.
To use the system, you need to install a client available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
