Prosecutors listened to Alksnis

Deputy Viktor Alksnis, who spends his days fighting online hams, received a letter from the Moscow prosecutor's office responding to his recent appeal regarding the insult inflicted on him in LJ. The prosecutor's office considered that the complaint of Alksnis was worthy of consideration, and announced the initiation of a criminal case on April 10 about the dissemination of offensive and slanderous statements on the Internet (part 2 of article 129, part 2 of article 130 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The person against whom the case was filed is defined in the application as “the owner of LiveJournal”.

Timofey Shevyakov, an employee of the Foundation for Effective Politics, with whom Alksnis directly conflicts, believes that the matter has no prospects. “The owner of LiveJournal is an American company, Six Apart, ” Kommersant quoted him as saying. - So the server is outside the zone of Russian jurisdiction. And any attempt to regulate it is an invasion of the US information space and may cause an international scandal. ”
