Poynter presented the preliminary results of the EyeTrack07 study

At Habrahabr, EyeTrack07 research was already reported , which revealed that online texts are read more carefully than newspaper texts. The fourth study of the school of journalism of the Poynter Institute was devoted to differences in the perception of the text when reading large-format newspapers, tabloids and news sites.

From April 10 to April 12, the Poynter Institute held a conference at which it presented the preliminary results of its research, writes Online Journalism Review . The final results will be published as a book in June of this year. Recall that the study involved 600 people in four US cities (200 for each of the above media types). What do readers of newspaper sites pay the most attention to?

Based on the statistics of 11.4 thousand fixations of the respondents' views, the following most viewed elements of web pages were identified:
')
Lists of articles: 35%
Announcements (teasers): 27%
Advertising: 18%
Blogs: 4%
Photo galleries: 3%
Podcasts: 1%

It is worth noting that the sites of two newspapers were used for research purposes - St. Petersburg Times and Star Tribune . At the same time, researchers attribute low attention to blogs and podcasts to the fact that the newspapers themselves have paid them less attention on their sites. At the moment, blogs and podcasts on the sites of both newspapers are presented more extensively.
