Online texts are read more carefully than newspaper texts.

Online texts read better than newspaper texts. They are often read to the end, and the reader learns more information. This unexpected discovery was made by American researchers from the Florida School of Journalism.

A study of EyeTrack07, conducted by the Poynter Institute’s journalism school, revealed that the reader reads 77% of the text chosen for reading on the Internet, compared to 62% in a standard A2 newspaper, and only 57% in the A3 tabloid.

The results surprised researchers quite a bit, because in the past many thought that reading the text from the screen was more difficult than from paper. This is nothing more than a common myth.

This text perception study was the first in the world to be conducted on such a scale and with such objectivity. A representative sample of 600 respondents. Each test subject could read anything, and his behavior was monitored using a miniature video camera.

Questioning users on the content of texts also revealed that information is 15–30% better perceived if it is presented in an alternative manner (question-answer, chronology, list), and not in the traditional narrative form.
