Details of the educational project Opera Software

So, the Opera Software educational project has started today, but there is a lot of information on the new portal, so it makes sense to explain a little what is there and what it’s done for.

The following sections open from the main page of the educational project:

University tours - here you can find information about past and future trips of representatives of Opera Software company to various universities of the world, including Russia. By the way, interested parties can invite Norwegian developers to their university, using the corresponding postal address provided at the bottom of the page;

In your curriculum - this section is dedicated to the actual Web Standards Curriculum Support Program (WSC), developed jointly by Opera Software and Yahoo! Developer Network. It is part of this program that is the cycle of detailed technical articles highlighting certain issues of web development. An introductory article for the entire Web Standards Support Program was prepared by Chris Mills. In general, now in the framework of the project about 30 articles have been prepared, and by September they will add another fifty very useful guides. All of them will be available in the same place - in the development section .

In your lab - it describes in detail what advantages the use of Opera browsers in the training process gives. A cumulative mixture of browsers for desktops, mobile phones, communicators and new technologies (like Opera Link) makes it easy to organize your work with the university's web resources and communication between students and teachers, even outside the walls of your school. Here you can find a link to the text of the "Petition" about installing Opera at your university or college. For example, even if the authorities are not eager to change something in the lives of students, the latter can take the initiative and collect signatures for this petition: against a similar document, and even provided with dozens of signatures, it will be difficult for the authorities to resist. If you wish, you can download the English version of the application or translated into Russian .

Another invisible, but very interesting link is also on this page: if you wish, you can become the official distributor of the Opera browser in your university, college or even company. To do this, just register, fill out the form with all the necessary data and then access your distributor account. Also, you will get access to the unusual designer (already forgotten by old-timers, but now resurgent) - “Opera Composer”. This online tool allows you to quickly build your own version of the Opera browser, with its design, default set of bookmarks and other nice little things. In other words, becoming the official distributor, you can design a specialized version of the browser, unique only for your university. Unfortunately, while the opera designer allows you to create only a version for Mac OSX, but soon they promise to launch a similar service for the Windows version.

Forums - this section does not require special explanation. Here you can find links to the opera forums dedicated to the new project and take part in them. Yes, and if you want as many people as possible to know about this educational program, you can place a suitable banner on your blog or on your home page.

As a conclusion, as a direct participant in the preparation of this project, I can say that not all the planned activities have been announced on the portal and some of the ideas will be implemented in the near future.
