Immediately, two popular British publications -
The Economist and
The Guardian - this week announced plans to post their archive materials on the Internet.
On Thursday
it became known that the weekly The Economist will post materials on its website for 160 years - from 1843 to 2003. Archival materials of the journal will be available from December by subscription. Currently, materials available for the past 12 months are available on the Economist.com website.
On Monday, the Guardian newspaper
reported its intention to publish online all of its materials since 1821. The launch of the archive, which will contain the materials of The Guardian from 1821 to 1975 and the Sunday edition of The Observer from 1900 to 1975, is scheduled for November 3. During the first month, access to the archive will be free, and then - paid. Other materials (including articles from The Observer from 1791) will be added early next year.
