Hey. We have been working on one startup for a long time and, here, we decided to introduce it to habra people. In fact, the intended audience are bourgeois, so this is not PR, but simply an interest (+ perhaps testing the strength of the habraeffect and the speed with which our server will fall down). We are our customer / sponsor / ideological leader Travis from the USA and a team of about 5 people in Samara. And we are trying to implement a rather unique (especially, at the time of the start of the project) idea, and not just another remake.
So,
Browzmi is an online application for collaborative navigation on the Internet, which is an online browser with a set of social features.
The system is necessary for those of us who are bored of being online alone. Here you can collaborate on the network in real time, i.e. look at which sites are now our friends and what they are doing there. You can vote for the pages you are viewing, comment them, save to your favorites. You can chat with friends through our chat (and we will add ICQ / GTalk / Yahoo soon).
In order not to bore, I will briefly tell you about the most basic functionality.
')
The screenshot shows our system in which I view Habr.
Above - the usual navigation bar (buttons back / forward, address bar, search).
Under it - action buttons with the currently open page - add to favorites, write a comment, vote.
The My Stuff panel is open on the left, and the Surf with Friends widget is in it. This widget displays the pages where my friends are located and their actions. Everything is updated in approximate to real time, almost simultaneously in all open windows / tabs with the system.
In the same panel, you can open other widgets by clicking on the icons on the left - a list of friends, favorite sites and a tape of friends' actions (i.e., their ratings, comments, adding to favorite links).
The rest of the place is taken by the open site and chat window (s).
Naturally, all these panels / windows can be hidden / opened.
In the Explore More panel closed on the screenshot there are some other widgets.
Of course, web 2.0, ajax / comet / xmpp, everything. :)
A few more points:- We finish, but not finished. Now in the process of integration with IM networks, group chat and other small things. There was no final clean up, so minor issues are very likely.
- It is almost impossible to write an on-line browser correctly displaying absolutely all sites. We solve this problem by providing browser plugins that optimize our system. A plugin for Firefox is now available at http://www.browzmi.com/homebase/
- The most important thing - the whole essence of the system lies in the joint navigation. Those. using it alone, the meaning and essence is hard to understand. At least one online friend is desirable. I consider comments on the topic of how to attract people into the system in groups (implying that they will be familiar with the system at the same time, while being friends within Browzmi), are extremely valuable.
Thank.
