According
to Vedomosti, the American company Houzz is entering the Russian market. Houzz is an online platform for home design and renovation with a monthly audience of 25 million users. What caused interest in the Russian market in the current economic situation?
Houzz has been around for about 6 years. Since its inception, the company has raised $ 215 million. In October 2014, according to the results of Round D, the startup received $ 165 million and was valued at $ 2.3 billion. The round headed the fund Sequoia Capital. Also participated in the round fund DST Global Yuri Milner.
The Houzz platform brings together experts in the field of design, repair and architecture with users who need help in home improvement. Expressing his ideas and looking at the work of specialists, the user comes to understand what exactly he needs and how to do it.

Each month, 25 million people use the service, 100,000 of whom are Russians. More than 700,000 specialists, of whom 3,000 are Russian-speaking, promote their services with its help. So, one of the reasons for entering the Russian market is the growing interest of Russians in Houzz.
However, Russia is
still far from the first place in the list of countries that use Houzz. SimilarWeb estimates that 62.26% of the traffic comes from the US, 6.82% from Canada, 4.29% from the UK, 3.84% from India, and 2.2% from Australia.
The Russian Houzz team will be led by Mikhail Konoplev, the former managing director of Airbnb in Russia, the CIS and the Baltic countries.
The main income Houzz receives from the sale of advertising for specialized companies, premium accounts for professionals and from the commission on revenue from sales of goods of third-party companies through the platform.
But in Russia, the company is not going to launch these profit-making mechanisms. According to Konoplev, this is the standard for Houzz scheme for entering a new market - a calculation for the future.
After all, the Russian real estate market is one of the largest in the world. Even in the conditions of an unfavorable economic situation, the state does not reduce the cost of building and demolishing dilapidated housing.
In addition, Russia ranks first in Europe in the number of Internet users.
It is expected that by the end of 2015 Houzz will reach the break-even point.
