In order to avoid a
scandal again, Microsoft this time in advance
warns that soon Windows XP and Vista computers will start updating automatically without notifying users about it. As in September last year, the Windows Update module itself will be updated.
Last time, the story turned into a big scandal, because everyone learned about updating their computers after the fact. Obviously, the Windows developers were hoping that the “hidden” update would pass unnoticed. But it did not work out, so this time they decided to play it safe. Although an absolute majority of Windows users will still not notice how their system will perform the update. This time again there will be no system messages, and only in the
eventvwr.msc logs (XP) you can see what happened.
A wave of "hidden" updates XP and Vista will begin in late July and continue for several months. You can prevent the process only if you disable the update check feature in Windows at all.
