New Firefox browser for residents of Turkey: Google will replace default search with Yandex search

According to RBC, Mozilla Corporation agreed to set a default search for Yandex in Firefox browser. Earlier in this country, a default Google search was set in the Firefox browser settings.

As representatives of Mozilla write in the company's blog, the search for Yandex was tested on a sample of 10 thousand users. “When the Turkish users were offered Yandex instead of Google, most of them stayed with Yandex,” reports the press service of Yandex.

The changes will affect both the desktop version of Firefox, and mobile. The browser works under such operating system families as Windows, Mac, Linux and Android. The agreement between Mozilla and Yandex was signed, and Firefox will be updated on March 30, 2015. Terms of the agreement are not disclosed.

Yandex entered the Turkish market in 2011 by launching the Yandex.com.tr portal to promote maps and navigator. This was the company's first attempt to enter the foreign market.

According to comScore research, in January 2015, the share of the Yandex search system in Turkey on desktops did not exceed 4.2%, while Google’s share reached 97.3%, taking into account mobile devices. According to StatCounter in February 2015, only 6.5% of users use Firefox in Turkey, and 70% use Google Chrome.

On the default installation of the search “Yandex” in the browser Firefox for the inhabitants of Russia, the company agreed in November 2014. At the same time, Mozilla changed its strategy regarding the installation of search: before that, the default search was general (Google) for all countries, and now this issue is solved individually in each country. So, in the US, Yahoo is the default search, Baidu is in China, Yandex will now be in Turkey, and Google is currently installed for other countries.
