SAP seen in participation in NSA programs

Bill McDermott, CEO of SAP, says that reports on the role of SAP in NSA programs are misleading, but adds that the company is respected for contributing to national security.

The company was faced with questions on this topic after it appeared that SAP allegedly provided the infrastructure to the American intelligence services to organize Internet espionage. Zeit Online reports that the CIA and the NSA are using the SAP database system. It was also determined that the company owns the tools created by Inxight and Sybase.

McDermott said: "SAP solutions are standard software, and our customers decide how they want to use it."

SAP bought Inxight in 2007. Joe Lernuth, a former intelligence software developer, said: "Inxight solves the availability problem for finding large amounts of data." After 3 years, SAP bought the American developer DBMS Sybase, the largest client of which is also the NSA.

McDermott replied: “The allegations that access to user data is possible is a lie. In addition, there are no backdoors embedded in SAP software and customer data cannot be obtained from outside. SAP, like no other company, pays special attention to data privacy and user security. ”
