Intel reduces its revenue forecast for the first quarter by $ 1 billion

According to Vedomosti, Intel has changed its forecast for the expected revenue for the first quarter of 2015. According to IDC, revenue is now reduced by $ 1 billion compared with the initial forecast. Possible reasons are the fall in demand for personal computers and a decrease in inventory of components from suppliers.

Initially, Intel planned to receive revenues of $ 13.7 billion (plus or minus $ 500 million). But now they are counting only on $ 12.8 billion (plus or minus $ 300 million). However, the marginal profit will not change and will reach 60%. This is partly explained by the fact that in the server segment sales decline is not expected.

In connection with the active growth of the dollar, European manufacturers and distributors of computers raise prices, which leads to a decrease in demand. In addition, among the factors that adversely affect the European market, one can distinguish the decline in oil prices and economic sanctions against Russia.

You can not discount the rapidly growing popularity of mobile devices in which Intel technology is almost never used.

The disappointing outlook caused a drop in the company's shares by 4.7%, followed by a drop in shares of Intel partners, component manufacturers and software: Microsoft - by 2.4%, AMD - by 2.8%, NVIDIA - by 2.5%, HP - by 2.3%, Seagate - 2.5%.

However, Intel is not going to reduce the cost of research and development of new products.

According to IDC forecasts, the personal computer market will decline overall. In 2014, it was forecasted to fall by 3.3%, and in 2015, the forecast worsened to 4.9%. Intel is not in a hurry to predict its profits in 2015.
