Companies can buy information about the preferences of users of Facebook

According to Techcrunch, Facebook is going to open for third-party companies information about users, selling it in an aggregated form, while maintaining confidentiality. In this regard, a new service is launched, which will be called Topic Data.

Companies will be able to obtain summary information on user feedback on their products and activities in general. It turns out that marketers, to some extent, will save on research target audience.

Facebook data is already used for targeted advertising of various products. But now, third-party companies can use unique information about user preferences to develop completely new projects.

“For the world of data collection on social networking platforms, this is really news. This kind of household information is of unlimited value not only in marketing, ”said Will McInns, chief marketing officer at Brandwatch.

Data access and data processing will be provided by DataSift. In turn, DataSift partners will deal with the sale of aggregated information. While the geography of these firms is limited to the USA and Great Britain.

The very idea of using such user data is not innovative. Companies StockTwits and DataMinr have already implemented it for the social network Twitter. In the fourth quarter of last year, Twitter earned $ 47 million selling information about consumer behavior and tastes.
