According to FIRRMA, Julius Zegelman and the online-community FundersClub have invested $ 100,000 in Canadian company Vanhawks, a manufacturer of smart bikes. The total amount of the investment round was $ 1.6 million.

Also participating in the round were Olympic triathlon champion Simon Whitfield, investor Brenda Irwin and Real Ventures fund, which became the main investor of the round.

Vanhawks smart bikes are made from carbon fiber. They use ultrasonic sensors to detect road bumps. In addition, they have functions for measuring speed and distance.
In May 2014, the company was actively supported on Kickstarter. Initially it was supposed to raise $ 100,000, but the results exceeded expectations: $ 820,000 was collected .

Julius Zegelman is a private investor and partner of the FundersClub company, which is an online community for investors. Any investors from the FundersClub can join together to conduct certain transactions or large investments. Before making a deal, FundersClub creates a company in the United States, which includes all interested members of the community. Further, the transaction is made on behalf of the established company. After the transaction, its management receives a commission of 0.5% of the transaction and 20% of the profits. This scheme allows you to concentrate on average up to $ 1.5 million in one hand.

“This is a good mechanism for diversifying a portfolio with a small investment of time,” I also invest as a private investor, but I also like to invest through FundersClub, since they have interesting companies and deals in their portfolio. Of course, there are also disadvantages, such as: lack of control over a startup, lack of ability to somehow influence the conditions, as well as the fact that the management takes the management fee. However, there are pluses for startups. Many do not want to have 20 angels among the shareholders, they prefer the option when one legal entity unites these angels, ”explained Yuli Zegelman.

Over the past 3 years, Julius Zegelman has invested more than 10 startups with an average check of $ 20,000- $ 50,000.

He usually invests in US or Russian projects located in the United States. However, soon plans to make investments in Russia. The interests of Segelman in the future will include projects in the field of information security, innovative financial technologies, as well as projects at the junction of online and offline.
