Airlines are asking the government to postpone the entry into force of the law on personal data

Air Transport Observer published an open letter from the Air Transport Operators Association to Russian business ombudsman Boris Titov asking him to "help amend the law on personal data storage."

The AEHT warns of the threat of suspension of ticket sales and the stopping of passenger flights if the company is unable to comply with the requirements of the new law on the storage of personal data, which will take effect on September 1, 2015.

The statement explains that the data processing of passengers booking flights is made using the global distribution providers Amadeus, Gabriel, Saber and Galileo. Together they make it possible to purchase tickets for flights of Russian airlines in different countries of the world. In order to fulfill the requirements of the new law, Russian airlines and ticket operators will have to get providers' consent to host servers in Russia.

Transaero, UTair and S7 supported the appeal of AEVT.

Vedomosti quotes a representative of Boris Titov:
“In the existing form, the law on personal data is not actual or impossible to implement, or its implementation in such an edition, direct adherence to its letter, will lead to unpredictable consequences <...> We will ask the president and the government to correct the law”
