How to get an educational grant?

For the third year in a row, Innopolis University holds a competition for educational IT grants. Training programs are conducted both at the central site of the University in Innopolis, and at the sites of partner universities in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

WHAT IS INNOPOLIS UNIVERSITY?
Innopolis University is a new Russian university specializing in training IT specialists in accordance with international educational standards and proven successful Russian practices. WHAT IS A SOFTWARE ENGINEERING SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM ??
The program was developed taking into account the best world and Russian experience in training software developers and is aimed at meeting the needs of the Russian labor market for highly qualified specialists.

The basic principle of the program is expressed by the formula “Learn by doing”. More than 40% of study time is devoted to practice, which, in addition to the projects included in each academic discipline, includes the implementation of the project for an external industrial customer by a team of students under the supervision of experienced mentors. Thus, during their studies, students acquire versatile practical project experience, equivalent to 3 to 5 years of work in the company.

To apply for participation in the program can specialists with a high level of English language and project experience. Training is conducted exclusively in English.

Duration of studies is 12 months (3 semesters). Graduates of the program are specialists in the field of software development management, acquire competences in the field of requirements management, development of architectural solutions, modeling, choice of development methodology, analysis and quality management, planning and control of development.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR MSIT-SE MASTERS PROGRAM APPLICANTS IN 2015?
High quality education imposes high demands on candidates:
  • The ability to program, use imperative block-structured, or object-oriented language, for example: Java, C ++, Ada, C, C #, etc .;
  • Knowledge of English at Intermediate level and above (TOEFL or IELTS certificate is required for study at the sites of foreign partner universities; a certificate is not required for training at Innopolis’s own site - there will be serious testing);
  • Knowledge of basic Computer Sciences subjects such as discrete mathematics, algorithms and data structures, etc .;
  • Deep knowledge of at least two disciplines from 4: compiling techniques, comparative analysis of programming languages, operating systems, database systems;
  • Experience team development of software for 1-2 years.

Important selection criteria are also: the desire and ability to work in a team, the willingness to accept constructive criticism, the skills of effective intercultural communication.

WHERE WILL I LIVE DURING TRAINING, AND THEN - DURING WORK IN THE INNOPOLIS UNIVERSITY?
During their studies, program participants will reside in the residential campuses of Innopolis University.

WHAT ARE THE OBLIGATIONS OF THE PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS?
In accordance with the terms of the program, participants who receive a grant for training, undertake a number of obligations:
  • Successful completion of the program with a master’s degree;
  • Employment in the city of Innopolis, or in the partner company of Innopolis University;

Important selection criteria are also: the desire and ability to work in a team, the willingness to accept constructive criticism, the skills of effective intercultural communication.

HOW DOES A CANDIDATE SELECTION FOR A MASTERS PROGRAM HAPPEN?
Competitive selection takes place in several stages:
  • consideration of application documents by the representatives of Innopolis University;
  • Interviews of successful candidates with representatives of the Admission Committee of the Innopolis University in the city of Innopolis, including with representatives of the industry;
  • Deciding on admission;
  • Invitation to study according to the program;
  • A student's confirmation of the offer.

HOW DO I FIND OUT THE DECISION OF THE RECEPTION COMMISSION?
Successful candidates will be notified of the decision of the Admissions Committee on an individual basis.

THE LIST OF REQUIREMENTS TO CANDIDATES INDICATES ITEMS WHICH ARE NOT IN THE FORM OF APPLICATION ON YOUR SITE. WHAT ARE THESE DOCUMENTS NEEDED FOR?
Documents specified in the file "Requirements for candidates" are necessary to continue participation in the competition. Representatives of Innopolis University study the applications filled in on the site and keep in touch with the applicants. Candidates send a full package of documents after the relevant proposal received from representatives of Innopolis University.

All documents must be in English or with translation. It is not necessary to notarize the translation of a diploma, its annexes, academic transcript (or extract from the record book).

What does the TOEFL TEST represent? AND WHERE I CAN GIVE IT TO?
TOEFL is a standardized test that reveals the level of proficiency in English as a foreign language. The test consists of four sections: reading, listening, speaking and writing. TOEFL can be taken in one of the certified centers located in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny and many other Russian cities. Writing to TOEFL takes place at least three days before the planned test date. The results are published on the personal page of the test 10-14 days after passing the test.

The recommended test result for participation in the master program is 100 points (TOEFL iBT), and in each section you must score at least 22 points.

Candidates can also provide IELTS test results, in which case the minimum recommended result is 6.5 points.

Testing should be completed no earlier than two years before the date of delivery.

I HAVE IELTS CERTIFICATE. CAN I PROVIDE IT OR DO I NEED TO PASS TOEFL TESTING?
Yes, you can provide an IELTS certificate if the results you receive meet the requirements for admission. The recommended total score is 6.5 points, while the test results in each section should be at least 6.0 points, in the oral section - 7.5-8.0 points.

Testing should be completed no earlier than two years before the date of delivery.

CAN I APPLY ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS TO THE APPLICATION: USE RESULTS, DIPLOMAS AND CERTIFICATES? WILL IT IMPACT ON THE DECISION OF THE RECEPTION COMMISSION?
Yes, we recommend that you submit the results of the Unified State Exam (if available); as well as diplomas and certificates confirming your achievements related to the specialty (participation in competitions, contests, conferences, etc., starting from the senior classes of the school), as well as any other achievements.

I COMPLETE THE TRAINING, BUT AT THE MOMENT OF THE SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION, I DO NOT HAVE A DIPLOMA FOR EDUCATION. CAN I PARTICIPATE IN THE COMPETITION?
Yes, you can participate. Instead of a diploma, provide a scan of the academic certificate (this is a document of the established sample), which is issued upon request at the dean of the faculty of your university.

After graduation from the university, it is necessary to make a copy of the diploma supplement, make its translation, provide it to the admissions office.

I DON'T TRAINED IN IT SPECIALTY, BUT I HAVE PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE IN DEVELOPING SOFTWARE. CAN I PARTICIPATE IN COMPETITIVE SELECTION?
Yes, you can participate in competitive selection if you have not been trained in an IT specialty, but are qualified in the field of natural sciences and have experience in the industry (software development).

WHAT IS A MOTIVATIONAL LETTER? HOW IT MUST LOOK OUT?
A Statement of Purpose (SOP) should show why you are a worthy candidate and why you are interested in the proposed program. Describe your dream job and explain how learning at a partner university will help you get it. The motivation letter must be in English.

Please do not describe the general merits of the master's program.

WHAT SHOULD INCLUDE A RECOMMENDATION LETTER?
According to the requirements, candidates must send three letters of recommendation - one each from the employer and the educational institution, the third - alternatively: from the employer or the educational institution.

A letter of recommendation usually has the following structure.

  • How long and in what capacity have you known the applicant (student, employee, etc.)?
  • What is the difference between the applicant in professional and personal terms and how do you assess his potential?
  • Please rate the applicant by the following parameters by comparing it with other students / staff (0 - low level, 5 - excellent level)

  1. intellectual abilities;
  2. hard work;
  3. motivation to continue education in the magistracy;
  4. emotional maturity.

Additional information about the applicant, his strengths and achievements.

The recommending person must provide their contact details.

If possible, the letter is signed by the referring person and sealed by the organization.
