Apple ordered to pay $ 532.9 million for patent infringement

The Medusa publication, citing Bloomberg, reports that, by decision of a Texas court, Apple is obliged to pay Smartflash $ 532.9 million for violating several patents that describe the technologies used in the iTunes online store.

Smartflash insisted on compensation of $ 852 million for the use of three patents. Apple, in turn, claims that it did not use the company's technology, while evaluating the total value of patents at $ 4.5 million.

The essence of the claim is that Smartflash manages the rights to seven patents of its founder, Patrick Ratz, describing the technology of data storage and access to payments. Lawyers for Smartflash claim that Apple and other companies gained access to their development more than ten years ago from the presentation of one of the company's executives.

The company filed claims for infringement of its own patents against several companies, including Samsung, Amazon and Google, for which no court proceedings had yet taken place.

UPD.: Apple announced the filing of an appeal against the decision of the court of the 4th district of Texas.
