Not so long ago (about six months ago) I took up the issue of legalizing software in our company. One of the reasons was substantial financial savings when implementing solutions based on Linux and OpenOffice. In total, there were 10 jobs, 5 on Linux, 5 on Windows (license), and 2 servers on Linux (1C SQL, Proxy). But the post is not about the wonders of migration to SPO, but about how the employees of the DAEC work, or rather, how exactly do they check for software licensing? Particularly interesting is the option when there is no X on the Linux server (after all, this is true, at least on most machines).
After reading the post about
running a virtual machine in VirtualBox without a GUI , I realized that on any server without a gui, you can easily raise yourself, for example, Windows 2003 and have its functionality. And here we already have an interesting situation. I can still understand how such technical details will come to light. For example, a certain expert will be brought in (we will not disclose aspects of hiring an expert to a state body either), who will make a conclusion on the unlawful installation of an operating system. If it detects the fact of using VM. But I can’t understand in any way whether employees of the DAEC go to ALL raids with specialists, at least the level of a novice administrator, able to detect the fact of using Win2k3 functionality without having a physical machine with this OS.

Imagine the situation: the average office, 50 jobs, 40 on Linux, 10 on Win (license), 5 servers on Linux. And on one of the servers will be raised VM with Win2003 (pirated) and AD, and all Win-machines will be in the domain.
Attention question: Will the OBEC staff (or those who arrive on the raid) find out if there is a functional AD in this situation, in the absence of a machine with Windows Server installed?
But this is if we talk only about aspects related to the illegal installation of the OS. And if we talk about software? Here in general it turns out that the state. Bodies should have an operational IT-team for EVERY checking case, so as not to lose sight of what? Or is it happening? :)
