Australian censorship: a secret list of forbidden sites and a large fine

Unpleasant news comes from Australia (it was uploaded to Slashdot and blogger lqp translated ). It turns out that the Australian Ministry of Communications (ACMA) has compiled a list of those sites that providers should block access to. But if it were only made up, it would simply be censorship - but in reality there was a marasmus and nightmare of surrealistic, anti-utopian totalitarianism.

Firstly, there is no law about the ban in Australia (it is only preparing for adoption: will they accept any more), and the authorities are already introducing censorship - without prior arrangement, so to speak.

Secondly, it is forbidden not only to show the sites included in the black list of the Ministry of Communications, but also to put hyperlinks on them from forums, for example. From the Australian forum, Whirlpool requires a fine (eleven thousand dollars a day) for one such hyperlink.

Thirdly, the very contents of the list is an Australian state secret, a criminal penalty is imposed for disclosing it. Accordingly, about which sites you cannot put hyperlinks on, good people (on the forum, for example) will find out on the fact of their prosecution.

Fourthly, taking advantage of the fact that it is forbidden to know the contents of the list (and therefore discuss), the authorities supplemented it with the most diverse (far from certain) content. For example, they placed both a site about a similar list in Denmark (that is, Australians are now forbidden to know how the Danes are forbidden) and a wiki for draining political compromising material (wikileaks.org), and a website for opponents of abortion (with photos gutted embryos), and so on.

The only bright moment in this story is that it takes place in Australia, far from us.

Rejoice at this while you can.
