The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has
imposed a $ 40 million
fine on the wireless operator TracFone. This company promised users an unlimited connection to the Internet, but on reaching a certain size of downloading data, the user was cut back on speed or closed to access to the Network. Actually, many operators in different countries are doing this, and until recently, the authorities did not pay much attention to the deception of their users by companies.
The case of TracFone can be a precedent for all such cases in the United States. According to the FTC, the company was not penalized for cutting the user's communication channel to achieve a certain amount of downloaded data. Telecom operator was punished for the fact that the company called the package “unlimited”, although it was not at all.
At the same time, it is clear that truly unlimited tariff plans should be much more expensive than services that many people are used to. However, many users are not aware of what exactly a telecom operator means by the term “unlimited” connection to the Network, and often such users are deceived in their expectations. It is also worth noting that communication operators quite often point to the real limitations of the “unlimited” communication channel, but they refuse to call specific data on the limit.

Of course, it would be desirable that not only in the USA, but also in other countries, telecom operators (and not only them) would call things by their names, and provide real data on various points of the tariff plan. But so far this case is a single one, and many dozens (or even hundreds) of other telecom operators continue to offer the service of "unlimited" communication channel. Perhaps the case described above will help reduce the number of such offers on the market.
