"Ubiq" will be filmed

Forty years it took the mass culture to mature for the perception of Philip Dick. Only now, the directors began to use the creativity of the classic to the fullest. Films on his books come out almost every year. Soon there will be another one. Recently it became known that the French film company Celluloid Dreams has acquired the rights to the screen version of the novel “Ubiq”. Filming should begin in 2009.

"Ubiq" (1969) - one of the best works of Dick. The protagonist of the novel is Glen Ransiter, the head of the inertial organization (inertial is anti-telepaths who track all telepaths and, if necessary, block their activity). Glen's wife after death is maintained in a half-dead state, like millions of other people, with the help of a special spray “ubiq” (from the English word “ubique” - omnipresent). In this state, a person can talk, but worse and worse, until the effect of the drug ends. Over time, Glen's surrounding reality begins to blur, changing reality begins with trifles, at first just some products in the store change their names, but over time, the transformation captures more and more objects of the surrounding world. Glen realizes that only with the help of the Ubiq he can restore reality and return to the familiar world. In 2005, Time magazine named Ubiq one of the hundred best works in the history of modern English-language literature.

Some of Philip Dick’s previous versions of the film were not very successful, but others became real masterpieces, like the films Blade Runner (1982), Recall All (1990), Screamers (1995), Dissenting Opinion ( 2002), The Prophet (2007).
