
As announced at AzureCon in 2015, Akamai's Content Delivery Network has become available to Azure users! Now Microsoft customers can use Akamai infrastructure by selecting the appropriate tariff plan when creating a new CDN resource:
Akamai CDN uses more than 200,000 geographically distributed servers in more than 120 countries to deliver content to users.
Akamai is the market leader in CDN services. The company was founded in 1998 by a student at Masachusetsky University of Technology Daniel Levin and a professor of mathematics at the same university Thomson Leighton. Levin died on board an American Airlines plane during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. Among the company's customers are Adobe, Apple, AMD, Amazon.com, BBC, Blizzard, CNET, European Space Agency, Facebook, IBM, GitHub, Microsoft, NASA, NVIDIA and many others.

At the moment, in addition to Akamai CDN, Azure also offers Verizon CDN services. If you select Verizon CDN, the user also has the ability to create additional rules for distributing content and viewing advanced statistics.
