Freelance market by the customer. Designers.

Recently, I often see posts of freelancers on Habré, the essence of which comes down to “40 ways to send a searcher to the fuckers, etc.” I would like to present the opposite side, the side of those who from time to time need to use the services of freelancers.

This article opens a series of articles devoted to communication with freelancers in different directions.

So, designers on the market today are represented by three groups.

1) dropouts.
These are people who have just begun to engage in design, but already consider themselves to be professionals. They will be ready to take on any project, for quite ridiculous money (or food review). In spite of the fact that this kind of cheapness can bribe, one should not agree in any way. Saving you get:
')
* increase in the terms both with different formulations (session, the cat died, went shopping, was busy), and without them.
* Poor quality work. As a rule, the work will be reduced to the following scheme:

mega-fix mockup -> painful refinement -> a passable settling mock-up.

Average price per site layout: review -> $ 100

2) Serednyachki.
People who had time to screw up to make more than one order. Usually they know how to work, there is no unhealthy pathos like in mega-designers and “childhood diseases” of beginners. Already formed its own style. If skillfully kicked enough, they can make a nice design. The insistence on working at 50% prepayment.
Motivated not only by money, but also by the desire to put a good project in your portfolio.

Average price per site layout: $ 300 -> $ 1000

3) Megaddesigners. or those who consider themselves as such

People who have already done quite a lot of work, but at the same time have found unhealthy pathos. As a rule, communication with such designers does not carry anything positive. Motivated solely by money, and the amount may be called space ($ 5000 for the layout). The customer is not put into anything, communication with him is a favor. Hence, there are "childhood diseases", for example, the disappearance without explanation, the disruption of terms.
In this case, you can get a very mediocre job and assurances that it is necessary.

Average price per site layout: $ 1500 -> infinity

Problems that may arise with ANY freelance designer:

1) "Do not move a finger before the prepayment"
2) may simply disappear without explanation
3) with a good portfolio make a candid drain
4) failure to provide the source code for the add. fee.
5) work is not on the result, and working out the TK.

Tips for working with a freelance designer:

1) do not give prepayments until you are 100% sure of the person (portfolio, meetings, discussion of ideas).
2) always be ready to “throw”, minimize risks, require intermediate sources.
3) be ready to meet deadlines, make a time reserve.
4) connect the designer to the compilation of TK. see item 1
5) use the "risk-free transaction" and analogues.
6) final payment only after the complete approval of the work and receipt of all source codes.
7) at the beginning of work get all possible contacts (phone numbers, Skype, asya). If the project is large - preferably a copy of the passport.
8) the conclusion of the contract does not give a guarantee against the “kick”, but obliges to work out the TK very carefully (Appendix).
9) personal communication is very important. If possible, choose a freelancer who can drive to the meeting.
